Meet the people behind the magazine. These are our Scientific executive members for 2025 and we’re all excited to be bringing you more original science content this year. While we all share a passion for science communication, we have different roles and specialties that keep the publication ticking smoothly. Read on to get to know us!
Administrative Team.
Nargiss
President
Nargiss has been part of UoA Scientific for four years and is currently serving her third year in the presidential role. She is completing a research assistant role in the School of Environment, where her work explores the intersection of chemistry and environmental science. Alongside her passion for science communication and student engagement, Nargiss enjoys hiking, swimming, and exploring Aotearoa’s outdoors.
Emily
Vice-President/Secretary
This is Emily's second year at the Scientific, and this year she's stepping into the Vice-President role. She is currently completing her Master's in Biomedical Science, focusing on the role of mRNA for optimising gene editing. When not in the lab or helping out with the Scientific, Emily loves creative endeavours such as painting and photography, as well as travelling and getting outdoors.
Aariana
Treasurer
Aariana is the Treasurer for UoA Scientific and has been in this role for three years. She is finishing her Master's in Biomedical Science with her research focus in detecting dopamine through the retina to visualise deep brain structures non-invasively. Outside of science, she enjoys reading, watching tv shows, baking, and travelling.

Kate
Head Editor
Kate is the Head Editor for UoA Scientific in 2026. She is heading into her 3rd year of a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) / Bachelor of Arts conjoint, specialising in Computational Biology and majoring in Anthropology and Classical Studies and Ancient History. She has been with UoA Scientific since 2025, and is excited to take up the mantle of the Head Editing role! Kate is passionate about science, and is looking forward to what 2026 has to bring!
Ji Woo
Writing Coordinator
Ji Woo is a Writing Coordinator for UoA Scientific in 2026. She is currently in her third year of the MBChB programme. She is passionate about clear and engaging science communication, particularly in translating complex medical concepts into accessible content for a broad audience. Alongside her studies, Ji Woo enjoys travelling, shopping, and café hopping, always exploring new places and experiences.
Sofia
Writing Coordinator
Sofia is a writing coordinator for the UoA Scientific for 2026. She is currently in her third and final year of a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and Statistics.
David
Writing Coordinator
This is David's third year with UoA Scientific. Stepping down from the glamorous Head Editor role, he is keen to continue utilising his editing skills to help put out more amazing articles this year! He is currently in his 4th year of his MBChB degree, being placed at Auckland City Hospital for the year.

Aimee
Creative Director & Illustrator
Aimee is the Creative Director and resident illustrator of the UoA Scientific. 2026 is Aimee's fifth year being involved with the publication, and the ultimate year of her Master of Mathematical Modelling degree. She enjoys many artistic pursuits including drawing, writing, sewing and dancing.
Bhavneet
Social Media & Marketing Officer
Bhavneet Kaur is the Social Media & Marketing Officer for the UoA Scientific Magazine. She is a second-year Bachelor of Science student in Computer Sceince and Information Technology Management at the University of Auckland. She manages digital content and promotes the magazine's vision across social platforms, combining her interest in technology with her passion for content creating and strategic storytelling. Outside of academics, she enjoys travelling, cooking, and exploring fashion and beauty.
Breanna
Print Designer
Breanna is the Print Designer for the UoA Scientific Review in 2026. This is Breanna’s first year of being involved in the publication. She is currently in her fourth year of her Health Science and Design Conjoint with a focus on Population Health and UX/UI Design. She enjoys going to the gym and staying active alongside her hobbies of painting, drawing, travelling and restaurant seeking.
Bernice
Content Designer
Bernice is the Content Designer for UoA Scientific Review in 2026. This is her second year in this role, and the final year of her conjoint degree in Engineering and Science majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Psychology. Outside of her studies, she enjoys going to the gym, travelling and cafe hopping.
Rebecca
Information Designer
Becca is the Information Designer at UoA Scientific. She is studying for a BSc majoring in Physics and Maths. Becca brings over 10 years of experience as a studio and freelance graphic designer, with a special interest in information design, data viz, and visual storytelling.
Outreach Team.
Zunaira
Head of Outreach
Zunaira is our Head of Outreach for 2026. She is a third year student completing her BSc in Chemistry and Pharmacolgy. As head of outreach she is working towards curating exciting events with her team for you guys. Outside of university comitments, she enjoys reading, exploring and trying new crafts.
Anya
Outreach Officer
Anya is the Outreach Officer for 2026. She's in her third year of a BCom/BSc in Commercial Law and Environmental Science, with a keen interest in sustainability and environmental policy. She's looking forward to building collaborations across campus and the wider community throughout the year.
Saniya
Events Officer
Saniya is one of the events officers for 2026. Currently in her third year doing a BSc in Physics and Psychology. Outside of study she enjoys going to the beach, thrifting and exploring new cafes.
Osaid
Events Officer
Osaid is an events officer in 2026 and is currently in his third year of the MBChB programme. He is passionate about creating engaging and well run events that bring students together.
Kevan
Writing Coordinator
Kevan is a writing coordinator for UoA Scientific in 2026. He is studying a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in mathematics with a focus on graph reconstruction.
